Gal on a Budget: The Finishing Touches Judie Engel

I wear dresses almost daily, but when it comes to getting dressed up for holiday events, even I jump at the chance to take it up a notch. In fact, I start mentally planning my outfit the moment an invitation arrives in my mailbox! By the time the party arrives, slipping into my outfit of choice and adding just the right accessories becomes one of my favorite parts of the evening. Along with the chance to take a few of my fancier dresses for a spin, I think what makes holiday dressing unique is that this is my favorite time of year for festive accessories. I certainly don’t shy away from beautiful ones throughout the year, but on a day-to-day basis, I keep things very simple–my delicate everyday jewelry, one of my go-to totes or small handbags, and perhaps a scarf and a pair of sunglasses. Come December though, everything from the store windows, to the light-draped trees, to the snow outside (if I’m somewhere that boasts white Christmases) sparkles, so I find myself looking for ways to sparkle a little extra too.

My holiday party style runs the gamut, from whimsical and charming (like this), to sophisticated and chic (like this), to elegant and ladylike (like this). One thing all of my holiday looks have in common, though, is a standout accessory, whether that means a statement pair of shoes, a faux fur stole, a classic bag, or a special piece of jewelry. Investing in heirloom-quality accessories has its perks (I love imagining the thrill of a future granddaughter when I gift her my favorite pieces someday!), but since you may wear these items less frequently, it can also be a good category to seek out budget-friendly items for. I was inspired to share a few of my favorite accessories to wear with dresses from the November Gal Meets Glam Collection for today’s Gal on a Budget post, in the hopes that you’ll be able to pick up a few pretty new things in time for your holiday soirées!

Kimberly

The LBD you’ve been waiting for! This dress combines a simple, romantic satin bodice with a floral patterned jacquard skirt that is very Audrey Hepburn-esque

Heart Drop Earrings

Earrings are the accessory I’m most likely to switch up on a regular basis, and I’m not afraid to go big! This heart-shaped pair has a feminine vibe, but the black color keeps them from looking too sugary sweet.

Classic Shoulder Bag

An elegant box shape and a chainlink strap give this under-$20 purse a Chanel-esque vibe that never goes out of style. Every girl should have a little black bag in her closet!

Tassel Pumps

The epitome of “classic with a twist,” these chic black pumps have a timeless shape and endless versatility. Tone-on-tone tassels are subtle enough for the office party, but fun enough to wear to your best friend’s annual holiday cocktail hour!

Pearl Embellished High Heels

The pearl embellishment on these heels adds just enough interest to dress up a look while remaining neutral and easy to pair.

Adair

The pearl and ballet pink jacquard of our Adair dress adds a holiday touch of sparkle. But my favorite thing is the ease of wear of this fit and flare. When it comes to holiday brunches and luncheons, this is the dress I’ll be reaching for.

A Tailored Topcoat

A classic silhouette, tortoise buttons, cozy wool, and the loveliest shade of warm blush? This coat is simply a can’t-miss. Add it to your outerwear collection and enjoy wearing it all winter long, especially over dresses.

Modern Pearls

As much as I love classic pearl studs, there’s something so captivating about this pair–I think it’s because they look like a pearl nestled inside a shimmering oyster shell. They would look just as beautiful paired with a casual outfit as they would with this dress.

Beaded Pearl Bag

This pearl-covered bag reminds me of the embellished clutches in my grandmother’s enviable closet, but this style offers a gorgeous, modern twist. It’s also incredibly similar to this designer bag.

Blush Pumps

Blush pumps provide a little more interest than classic nude, while still maintaining an understated vibe. Cream and blush is one of my favorite color combinations to wear in winter, but I wouldn’t hesitate to pair these with dresses and coats in bolder shades as well.

Annabelle

Stand out in a sea of little black dresses in this Pink Red version of our Annabelle dress. A retro silhouette accented by a v-back with bow detail that adds a feminine touch to this romantic style, just right for December weddings, cocktail parties, and more.

Pearl Studs

Some of my all-time favorite simple earrings are pearl studs, you can’t go wrong with this timeless staple.

Red Cropped Jacket

This cropped red wool coat is a simple and easy piece to throw on over your holiday looks. Plus, the cropped style looks great with dresses.

Ankle Strap Sandals in Red

For a dressier look, wear these ankle strap heels in red with a tiny bow that add a touch of femininity and party style.

Mini Red Bag

This sweetest mini red bag for the holiday season to hold all your evening essentials.

Sadie

Heading to a party that promises a vibrant dance floor? Our Sadie dress is the one you’ll want to take out for a spin. A floral beauty with a sweetheart neckline and elegant draped back, this style is one you simply can’t go wrong wearing

A Sweet Bow

I’ve collected quite a few pre-tied bow hair ties for casual and dressy occasions alike. They make achieving a gorgeous, party-ready style as easy as throwing curled hair into a ponytail or half-updo.

Top Handle Box Clutch

This iridescent pink box clutch is the perfect neutral to wear with the Sadie dress for a day of shopping or an evening celebrating the season with friends and family.

Faux Fur Scarf

For formal holiday events, slip this faux fur scarf over your shoulders and call it a day. The extra-long length of this one opens up a variety of styling options.

Versatile Heels

I’m confident these strappy heels can be worn with practically any dress in your closet. Opt for the nude color for the utmost versatility.

Felicity

This pink satin party dress with little black bows and a square neckline is both sweet and refined. Dress it up with high heels and pearls or down with simple, fun accessories like those below.

Collared Wrap Coat in Black

Stay cozy warm going to and from holiday parties in this collared wrap coat in black. The perfect overcoat to wear with the Felicity dress on those chilly evenings out.

Hard Case Clutch

Most times of year, you’ll rarely find me without one of my favorite hard case clutches. Just the right size for the essentials, and transition seamlessly from day to evening.

Modern Glam Pumps

These low heels ensure you’ll be able to spend the entire evening on your feet. I can’t decide what I love about them most–the 1920s-inspired silhouette or the unique, pearl-embellished heels.

Dramatic Tassels

Dangling tassels add a dramatic contrast. This pair reminds me of my favorite styles from Mignonne Gavigan and Rebecca de Ravenel.

Carmen

Our red Carmen jumpsuit is ready to help you charm your way through every event on your calendar this holiday season. The one-shoulder style is flattering and simply chic.

Delicate Bow Earrings

These dainty gold bow studs have a slim silhouette and hand-knotted look that is equally feminine and refined.

Suede Heeled Sandals in Red

Add a festive touch with these red suede heeled sandals that can be worn again and again through-out the year.

Embellished Hair Barrette

Add a touch of glam and old Hollywood charm by sweeping hair back on one side with this beautiful embellished barrette.

Classic Mesh Pumps

This fun, polka dot classic pump creates an alluring look. The subtle touch of sheer feels just right for holiday date nights.

Mary

Our Mary dress perfectly represents my classic, feminine style. We kept this floral beauty simple and universally flattering with a fit and flare silhouette and flattering longer sleeves. I believe it will make any woman look and feel gorgeous, throughout the holidays and beyond.

Faux Fur Coat

I opted for a faux fur coat last New Year’s Eve and might do so again this year. Slip this blush one on over the Mary dress for a darling party look, just right for ringing in 2019.

Floral Beaded Earrings

The elegant simplicity of the Mary dress lends itself beautifully to statement accessories. These rose gold and blush beaded floral earrings will sparkle every time they catch the light.

Pearl Hoop Earrings

Pearls are one of those few accessories that can be worn with just about anything, anytime of the year and these pearl hoops are no exception.

Pearl Block Heels

Oversized pearls give so much character to these block-heeled sandals. Their shimmery satin finish makes them holiday-ready, but you’ll also be able to style them with any of your Gal Meets Glam Collection dresses well into the spring
